Environmental Field Safety

George Mason faculty, staff, and students conduct field work in a variety of settings as part of instructional and research activities. EHS offers Field Safety Training and provides written guidance to support safety of personnel conducting field research.  Personnel conducting field activities must:

  1. Understand their responsibilities when working in the field
  2. Understand the risks associated with field work
  3. Plan appropriately for the work and prepare for unanticipated events or emergencies (first aid, communication, transportation, weather)
  4. Maintain appropriate training, certification or licenses for equipment and vehicles used for work.

It is recommended that personnel attend field safety training and complete a Field Safety Risk Assessment prior to conducting field work.
