Emergency Planning
An emergency can occur at any time, suddenly and without warning. Proper planning is essential to minimize the impact of any emergency on university operations and facilities. The Emergency Coordinator within the Office of Fire Safety Programs provides such planning by establishing policies, procedures, and outlining responsibilities that are necessary to effectively respond to an emergency.
Two guide books have been published that cover various emergency topics for Faculty, Staff and Students. The first guide, Emergency Procedures and Safety Information for Students and Residents, addresses topics such as on-campus violence and nightclub safety. The second guide, Emergency Procedures and Safety Information for Faculty and Staff, includes instructions for events such as suspicious mail or a hazardous material release. All together, these guides include over twenty topics that will help you make an informed decision during times of crisis. Many of these topics are also available for review in the front of your George Mason Telephone Directory.
