About

Founded in 2007, the Environmental Health and Safety Office was created to provide the university community with one centralized office dedicated to maintaining health and safety. The office is comprised of six specialized and unique service areas to include emergency management, environmental compliance, fire safety, laboratory safety, occupational health, and occupational safety. It is through these services that the office is able to encourage health and safety on campus while also helping to maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Mission

EHS collaborates with the university community to promote health, safety, environmental protection, emergency preparedness and compliance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and best practices in order to sustain a healthful and safe working and learning environment. This mission is accomplished by establishing policies and procedures, providing training and education, facilitating emergency management, implementing preventive actions, and ensuring continuous improvement of Mason’s health and safety programs for employees, students, and visitors.

Vision

Our staff will operate under the highest ethical standards, excel in collaboration efforts, and possess exceptional communication skills to inspire, enthuse, and stimulate a culture of health, safety, and environmental stewardship. We will provide world class customer service, offer a model safety training program, and continually advance best practices in safety and health, resulting in sustaining incident and injury-free campuses, as well as establishing ourselves as a national EHS resource.

Values

We value our diverse community, superior and timely customer service, collaboration and teamwork, effective communication, integrity, honesty, ethics, and a safety-minded community.
