Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
George Mason University has developed a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Plan to facilitate university compliance with OSHA regulations 29 CFR 1910 Subpart 1 – Personal Protective Equipment and 29 CFR 1926 Subpart E – Personal Protective and Life Saving Equipment . The plan establishes procedures for identifying workplace hazards through the use of job safety analysis (JSA) or workplace hazard assessment, and for selecting PPE for any hazards that cannot be addressed through administrative or engineering controls.
Examples of PPE requirements include:
- The use of safety glasses, lab coats, and nitrile gloves in laboratories;
- The use of safety footwear, eye protection, and work gloves in machine shops;
- The use of hearing protection and safety footwear in landscaping/lawn mowing.
