EHS assists the university community in planning for emergencies by establishing policies, procedures, and outlining responsibilities that are necessary to effectively respond to an emergency. Emergency Management coordinates the university’s response to emergencies, provides support to emergency response personnel, and manages administrative procedures related to emergency response and recover. This function also administers the Mason Alert emergency messaging system, and the automatic external defibrillator program.
EHS-Emergency Management staff are responsible for a variety of areas, including:
- Preventing emergencies from occurring on campus be recommending modifications to facilities, university activities, and procedures.
- Preparing the university to respond and recover from emergencies through training, exercises, planning, and outreach activities.
- Responding to events that occur on campus and helping to coordinate response activities through the Emergency Operations Group and external partners.
- Assisting the university in recovering from crisis using established plans and procedures to resume university operations as quickly as possible and provide support to those impacted by the event.
